FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to download the Depot Client application to use the Depot Tool?
Yes. The only way that you can read and write radios with the Depot Tool
is through the Depot Client.
To get the Depot Client log in to the Depot Website under this URL:
depot.radiocentral.motorolasolutions.com
and click on the "Download" button.
Install the Depot Client on your computer and when you run it, you will see the Depot Website in the
embedded browser.
You can then plug a radio into your computer and read it using the Read button on each job page and
write it using the Write button on the Results page.
What is connected mode and how is it different than disconnected mode?
Connected mode is when the computer at which you configure radios has an
internet connection. If this is true for you, then you do not have to directly visit the Depot
Website because the Depot Client contains a browser that automatically navigates there.
Disconnected mode is when the computer at which you configure radios does not have an internet
connection.
See the Disconnected Mode
topic for more information.
Why can't I import .mc files like I can with the old Depot Tool?
It's not necessary to import APX archive (.mc) files into the Depot
Tool. It is a security risk for you to keep customer archives on-site, so the Depot Tool does not
support importing them.
You can achieve the same result by reading the radio in the Depot
Client.
Why doesn't the list of Firmware versions in the APX Upgrade Firmware job contains a list of all versions like FlashZap does?
The Depot Tool uses only the latest, released firmware version for each major version number.
Why can I type anything into the APX FlashCode field?
This version of the Depot Tool does not validate FlashCode field entry
because of the complex logic involved and there are other tools that you can use to determine valid
FlashCodes.
FlashCode validation may be a feature in a future release of the Depot Tool. Note that
the tool does not validate the value of any field on the website. If you enter an invalid value, you
will not know it until the job fails.
What is the Target Firmware field on the APX Default Codeplug page for?
Some PCI options are based on the Firmware version, so there is a need to
specify the version in Create Codeplug. Default Codeplug works with or without first reading the
radio.
If you read the radio, the Target Firmware version will be automatically selected. If
you don't read the radio, then you will have to specify the Target Firmware version by selecting from the
list.
